"The freedom of the high adventure camp provided both to the adults and scouts made the week extremely enjoyable. The facilities were great. The bathhouse was clean, safe and very handy. The ability to escape the heat in the Kennedy Center made the evenings a joy for our scouts to unwind and relax." Troop 956

"The PSB staff gave us a spectacular week. They truly let the kids lead and provided all support necessary to complete the activities they chose." Troop 956

"Our scouts were able to do everything we wanted to do on the water, plus more. The PSB staff were unbelievably accommodating and worked very well with leaders and scouts alike. Thank you for a great week at Pamlico Sea Base!" Troop 334

Subject: Sea Kayak trip

First off, I'd like to thank you for all the help that you gave me with all my questions. The information gleaned from the website and links you forwarded were helpful but still left a few questions unanswered that only the experience of the trip would fulfill. It would be helpful to give more information about exact locations of camp, the facilities, and more information on the means of how and what should be carried on the kayaks. That being said, I feel that everyone adapted to the process of the trip and our group had a wonderful time. Being mostly female scouts, our group had to work a little harder to keep up with the boys. But i feel this built character in them and showed them they could overcome adversity. Diana, our member with a few particular struggles, had to push hard and was overcome with the strenuous task of rowing, but, she adapted and ended up doing the long day all by herself without any assistance. This was a great experience for her and it showed her that with hard work and patience, she could do whatever. She was thrilled she accomplished that and was all over herself to tell her mom when we got back. This is why I enjoy scouting, especially the venture crews which include female youth. It gives them a chance to do what anyone can and it makes me feel good to see someone push through to achieve a goal that seemed unattainable.
The trip was quite an experience, from the sights of the horses on Shackleford Banks, the sights of the water, beaches, shells, and channels, to the camping on the beach by the Cape Lookout lighthouse. The sights were great. The other youth were complimentary as well. The troop from Indiana, and later the other group from Drew's team meshed well with each other. I enjoyed watching each group interact and just have fun with each other. I feel that working with other units is a big idea that needs to be incorporated more into our scouting youth. I feel you run a well organized week and our female youth are interested in coming back next year. That says a lot seeing as they had to really work some to keep their kayaks going each day.
Last but least, I cant say enough good things about your staff. Rob was our main guide and I don't believe we could have asked for a better one. He was educational when he could be about the areas we camped and the history of each location. He was very helpful in trying to prepare us for each journey and to protect everyone from insects and sun. He even pulled a few of our young ladies through some tough areas and when they got tired, which i felt was above and beyond the call of his duty. We were later joined by Drew and his group and he fit right in with us as well. He was just as good as Rob and helped blend the last 2 days into an even better experience. Both guys were very approachable and easy to talk to which helps with the confidence of the youth. They did an amazing job of dealing with everyone and trying to keep the trip running smoothly. They were cautious and kept an eye on everyone in the water and kept us safe with the weather and moving safely on the water. Again, two outstanding men that really made the trip. One last thing. You have to get Rob a longer and more comfortable kayak. It was hard to see him struggling in the one he was in. He didn't complain, but you could see he was too tall for it. So get him one!
Thanks again for a great time and great memories. I hope the crew decides to come back, if not for the kayak trip, at least something else. Tell Rob and Drew to keep up the good work and hopefully we'll see them again.
